AQUATICS

LIFEGUARD

Position Summary:

Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Builds positive relationships with members and program participants through effective listening and verbal skills and creatively finds ways to connect them to one another and the Y community.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains active surveillance of the pool area
  • Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; completes related reports as required
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area
  • Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code
  • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed
  • Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving
  • Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action
  • Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants
  • Attends all staff meetings and in-service training
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 15
  • Certifications: Professional rescuer CPR/AED and first aid.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent
  • Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date
  • Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards

 

SWIM INSTRUCTOR

Position Summary:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.

Essential Functions:

  • Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers
  • Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs
  • Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary
  • Organizes and puts away needed class equipment
  • Reports damaged equipment
  • Trains and supervises class aides as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Certifications: Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification
  • Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards
  • YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent
  • At least 15 years of age

DISCOVERY CENTER

YOUTH CHILD CARE WORKER

Position Summary:

We are looking for a Child Care Teacher to encourage the healthy intellectual and psychological growth of the children in our facilities. You will teach and supervise them while also motivating them to use their mental capacities and exercise their imagination.

Essential Functions:

  • Design and follow a full schedule of activities and discover suitable teaching material
  • Balance your teaching between logical and social exercises
  • Provide basic care and caregiving activities
  • Use a wide range of teaching methods (stories, media, indoor or outdoor games, drawing etc.) to enhance the child’s abilities
  • Evaluate children’s performance to make sure they are on the right learning track
  • Remain in constant communication with parents and update them on the progress of their children
  • Observe children’s interactions and promote the spirit of concord
  • Identify behavioral problems and determine the right course of action
  • Collaborate with other colleagues
  • Adhere with teaching standards and safety regulations as established by the official sources

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a child care / daycare teacher
  • Excellent knowledge of child development and up-to-date education methods
  • Methodical and creative
  • Patience, flexibility and love for children
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • Certificate in first aid and CPR
  • Degree in early childhood education

 

CHILD WATCH ATTENDANT

Position Summary:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Child Watch Staff provide care for the youngest members of the Green County YMCA in a safe environment while parents are utilizing the facility.

Essential Functions:

  • Nurtures children through play while building relationships with the youth and families
  • Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards
  • Maintains program site and equipment
  • Maintains required program records
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, and staff training
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred
  • Ability to care for a variety of aged children at the same time
  • Previous customer service experience
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds

FITNESS CENTER

PERSONAL TRAINER

Position Summary:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Personal Trainer will assist YMCA members in finding new ways to inspire healthier habits through health and wellness. This position will work closely with members in promotion of wellness and helping individuals realize their personal best. Personal Trainers are responsible for developing relationships with members and assisting them through actively working towards better health by providing support.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides excellent member service by exceeding member expectations; greet and acknowledge all members to encourage wellness participation
  • Monitor the fitness center as members set the equipment to ensure their general safety and equipment function, enforce all member codes of conduct, rules and policies including, but not limited to age restrictions, dress codes, language and proper use of YMCA equipment and facilities
  • Demonstrates correct stances, posture, alignment and technique and verbally cues program participants. Shows safe, effective range of motion and exercise control, demonstrates strength and endurance maintaining role-model form throughout
  • Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being
  • Takes professional initiative to offer information, promote and sell personal training and additional health and wellness programs
  • Acquire the knowledge to develop safe and effective personalized fitness programs for members including cardiovascular, strength straining and flexibility components, based on their goals and motivation
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support. Maintains their certification
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA
  • Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health and culture
  • Understand the prevention, detection and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, basic emergency procedures, and the legal and professional responsibilities of personal training
  • Integrate the mission of the YMCA and follow the core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility into the healthy living aspect of job responsibilities
  • Set-up and maintain equipment, store and secure equipment upon completion of each Personal Training session. Evaluate fitness equipment, reporting the needs of the program to the Wellness Director
  • Keeps accurate member personalized fitness records including scheduled, rescheduled and cancelled appointments
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Specific knowledge of basic human anatomy and physiology as well as exercise prescription and training techniques
  • Must hold a nationally recognized Personal Training certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM, ACS, etc.)
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certification within 30 days of hire
  • Child abuse Prevention Training within 30 days of hire

 

GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR

Position Summary:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Instructs group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. Effectively builds community within the class. Modifies class as needed to meet varied health, ability and cultural needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals
  • Develop and learn group fitness routines and come to class prepared to teach the necessary materials
  • Arrive at least 15-20 minutes prior to class start time. Park in designated employee parking area
  • Follow COVID 19 protocol
  • YMCA staff shirt or name tag must be worn
  • Set music, prepare equipment, set up equipment (dumbbells, mats balls etc.) for each participant at their designated workout station
  • Instructs class in a proper manner with safe physical education principles and techniques. Demonstrates correct form for each exercise
  • Asks and answers questions from program participants and member. Support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being
  • Disinfects all equipment used during the class and returns all equipment to the Group Fitness Equipment Closet or designated area at the conclusion of each class. Keeps Equipment closet organized and ready for the next instructor
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA
  • Motivates members to commit to long-term participation
  • Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture
  • Celebrates achievement of program participants related to program or personal goals, mastering of specific skills or overall health and well-being
  • Keeps accurate class attendance records
  • Maintains current certifications
  • Understand, abide by, and enforce YMCA policies and Procedures. Positively explain and interpret policies to members. Responds to emergency situations promptly and appropriately
  • Report all program suggestions, problems and concerns to Wellness Director
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Wellness Director
  • Employees are held responsible for all duties of the job

Qualifications:

  • Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED
  • Certification in areas of expertise
  • The individual must possess a professional image and ability to provide positive feedback, motivation and encouragement
  • The instructor must be able to possess and set an excellent example of health and fitness and member service

MEMBERSHIP

MEMBERSHIP REPRESENTATIVE

Position Summary:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Delivers excellent service to all members, guests, and program participants. Responds to member and guest needs, promotes memberships and programs, and maintains cleanliness and organization of the lobby area.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the Y and on the phone, contributing to member retention
  • Conduct interviews and/or tours responsive to the needs of prospective members; sells memberships
  • Builds relationships with members; helps members connect with one another and the YMCA
  • Handles and resolves membership concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues
  • Applies all YMCA policies dealing with member services
  • May hand out towels; may monitor the locker rooms as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Previous customer service, sales or related experience
  • Basic knowledge of computers
