Youth Sports

4th – 8th Grade Boys & Girls Traveling Basketball

The YMCA and the Monroe Youth Basketball Club partner together to provide our community with a great basketball opportunity that teaches children fundamental basketball skills and a love of the game. Boys and girls play on separate teams, broken apart by grade level. Participants must live in the Monroe School District. The only exception: If someone lives in a different community that does not offer an organized basketball program for their grade, then they are able to play for Monroe YMCA.

November 2021 – February 2022

3-4 Year Old Indoor Soccer

Teach your child the very basic fundamentals of soccer while helping them stay active this winter. Games are played in the YMCA gym on Saturday mornings with Head Coach, Todd Carter.

Dribbling Dinosaurs (Grades K-1)

Introduce your child to the sport of basketball with this program that teaches the basic skills of dribbling, passing, catching, shooting, and basic defense. Held at Northside Elementary School with 8-foot baskets.

2nd & 3rd Grade Boys & Girls Skills Only Basketball Program

Introduce your child to a program filled with action, fun, and teamwork. Through learning and refining ball handling to strengthening defensive and offensive skills, your child will learn the fundamentals with positive coaching and personal attention on the foundations for game play. Held at Northside Elementary School.

November – December, 2021             9:40 a.m. – 10:40 a.m.

Winter Basketball Camp With The Cheesemakers

At the Y, we are focused on youth development and teaching the life skills necessary for children and teens to become responsible adults. We are able to accomplish this by developing self-esteem and emphasizing good sportsmanship in our sports leagues, camps and clinics. 

Kids will learn the fundamentals of basketball in this fun and exciting camp. They will be coached by the High School boys and girls basketball players along with Trent Henning, the Y’s Executive Director. There will be small-sided games and scrimmages, along with drills and skills.  Children can take any bus to the High School and walk to the M-Room from there.  The program will take place in the High School Practice Gym. 

January – February 2022        Early Release Fridays 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Kindergarten – 2nd Grade Indoor Soccer

This program focuses on basic soccer skills with an emphasis on keeping the sport fun. Games are played on Saturday mornings, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. in the YMCA gym.

3rd-6th Grade Indoor Soccer

Get ready for another season of fast action indoor soccer. This season includes both instruction and league games. Games are held on Saturday mornings in the YMCA gym from 11:00 a.m. – noon. Shin guards are required.

January 8 – February 26, 2022

2nd & 3rd Grade Boys & Girls Basketball

As players progress through the YMCA program, grades 2-3 are the milestone as the kids start playing games. Grades 2-3 play together as a league but are separated between boys and girls. Practices are held once a week. Games are held at Northside Elementary School on Saturday mornings.

January 15 – February 19, 2022

  • Boys Games       8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
  • Girls Games       9:40 a.m. – 10:40 a.m.

Passing Penguins (Ages 3-5)

Introduce your child to one of the most popular sports around the globe: soccer! This program provides every young child a chance to learn everything about the game. Basic skills are taught including passing, trapping and ball handling. Practices are held at the YMCA on Tuesday evenings. A soccer ball is included in the cost of registration.

Volunteers are needed to help Coach Todd Carter direct the kids.

May – June 2022

  • Session 1 Tuesdays 5:15 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Session 2 Tuesdays 6:15 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Micro Soccer (Grades K-6)

Help your child become a better soccer player and instill in them the fundamental skills of fair play, positive competition, and good sportsmanship. This progressive program has age-specific levels that promote healthy activity, good values, healthy relationships, leadership skills, and an all-around love for the game of soccer. Shin guards are not required but highly recommended.

Blaze Football

A (padded) tackle football program for grades 5-8. Blaze Football teams play in the Dane County Area Youth Football League. There are 13 communities in the DCAYFL providing 110 teams. Some weekends the team will be asked travel. Blaze play home games on the Dr. Scholl field at the Green County Family YMCA. The league has a 7 game schedule and games are primarily played on Saturday’s. Practices are generally 2 hours long and held on week nights. Practices begin in early August. A member from the Monroe Clinic will be present at all of our home games.
